During the week of June 3rd, the Nevada Mining Association (NVMA) participated in the 28th Annual Elko Mining Expo. The convention took place June 3 – 7 and consisted of supplier meetings, mine tours, receptions and more. The main exhibit was held at the Elko Convention Center where both first time and returning visitors exhibited the latest mining technologies, while meeting with organizations about potential career opportunities or partnerships.
“This was New Pig’s first time attending the mining expo,” said New Pig’s Corporate Account Sales Director Mike Imler. “It was a great way for the company to get face time with many of our current clients and see how we can expand our outreach.”
This year, NVMA partnered with Barrick Gold Corporation to provide a unique look into the mining industry. Two tours gave participants the chance to see the surface and underground of the Cortez mine site. Prior to entering the mining sites, the groups received a thorough safety lesson followed by an examination. The mine visits provided an intricate look into the mining projects, including processing areas, surface mining, tunnels beneath the surface and more.
Organizations with a variety of specialties such as mining and exploration, investment, service providers, safety as well as hospitality traveled from across the country to attend this year’s mining expo. Those in attendance had the opportunity to meet key buyers while showcasing their product to managers, purchasing officers, suppliers, owners and end users within the mining industry.
“The mining expo in Elko was extremely beneficial to how we connect with the mining community,“ said Peppermill Resort, Spa & Casino Corporate Travel Sales Manager Andrew Ladd. “As a hospitality partner we found that attending the expo was a great way to have face-to-face time with many of the vendors, suppliers and other mining companies that we have not met with before, and it created a great opening for new business.”
Over the years, the expo has been recognized as one of the oldest and most respected mining conventions held in the United States, attracting nearly 5,000 people from all over the world. The expo presented quality time for companies to develop unique partnerships amongst current and joining members of the NVMA.
