AMERICANS WILL SPEND THE 4TH OF JULY HOLIDAY WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY CELEBRATING THE UNITED STATES’ INDEPENDENCE.

As people prepare to hit the road, fire up the grill, or crack open a beer, here are 5 ways to celebrate the 4th with Nevada mining.

5 Ways to Celebrate the 4th of July with Nevada Mining - Nevada Mining Association - 1Travel

AAA estimates that 48.9 million people will travel over the 4th of July. Whether driving or flying, mining is responsible for helping travelers reach their destination. Copper is critical in the production of both airplanes and vehicles. Boeing 747 airplanes require 9,000 pounds of copper, while plug-in hybrid electric vehicles use 132 pounds.

Beer & Wine

There’s no better way to wash down a backyard barbecue burger than with a cold beer or glass of wine. Americans spend $1.6 billion alone on the two beverages over the 4th, more than any other item. Nevada produced diatomaceous earth and perlite are essential in the filtration process for both.

Beating the Heat

The Nevada summer is in full force during the 4th and a dip in the swimming pool is the perfect way to cool off. Diatomaceous earth’s filtration properties make it the perfect way to keep your pool crystal clear. Also, be sure to wear a zinc-based sunscreen to protect skin from harmful UV rays.

Fireworks

Firework shows are the ultimate 4th of July tradition, but they wouldn’t be possible without mining. Several different Nevada minerals are responsible for giving fireworks their unique coloration. Copper (blue), barium (white), lithium (red), and magnesium (silver) all help brighten the night sky.

Safety First Culture

Workplace safety is the mining industry’s number one priority, but it isn’t something to leave behind once a shift ends. Whether traveling, spending time with friends, or enjoying fireworks, taking the time to do things safely will keep your 4th of July fun and happy. Click here for some tips from the Red Cross.
