National Miner’s Day
December 6 marks National Miner’s Day, an opportunity to thank and celebrate miners all over Nevada and the United States for their amazing work that produces the materials needed to make our modern society possible.
Currently in Nevada, 11,200 men and women work directly in the mining industry, with another 21,777 working up and down the industry supply chain. Together, the 32,976 people of Nevada mining are responsible for producing over 20 essential minerals and 11.55% of all non-fuel mined material in the U.S., the most in the country. Nevada minerals like the lithium in smart phone batteries, the gold in air bag sensors, the silver in medical devises, and the copper wiring in vehicles are just a few examples of how Nevada mining benefits us daily.
Nevada miners are highly trained, highly skilled employees that do great work every day. They have been the backbone of Nevada’s original STEM industry for over 150 years, responsible for countless technological innovations and engineering achievements. Nevada miners continue to produce the materials that will lead to the next great breakthrough, all while maintaining a safety-first culture, because nothing is more important than every miner going home to their family after every shift.
To the men and women of Nevada mining and miners all across the county, today and every day we say:
Thank you.
