Yesterday, the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum announced they have chosen to honor the Nevada Mining Association (NVMA) with the 2013 Prazen Living Legend of Mining Award.
NVMA is being recognized for our commitment to educational programs throughout the state that focus on the importance of minerals in our everyday lives. Examples of such programs include our annual Southern and Northern Nevada Earth Science Education Workshops in which hundreds of local educators are taught creative lesson plans that incoporate mineral education into their classrooms.
“The Nevada Mining Association’s many educational programs and efforts to promote an awareness and appreciation of the mining and minerals industry are outstanding examples of how to provide the general public with a greater understanding of the industry’s role in our everyday lives,” said Paul Jones, Chairman of the Museum’s Board of Directors.
This prestigious award is presented each year to an individual or organization that has demonstrated a continuing commitment and successful efforts to educate the public on the importance of the minerals industry. The statue itself has been contributed by the renowned artist and sculptor, Mr. Gary Prazen, to show his appreciation of the mining and minerals industry.
The award will be presented at the Hall of Fame Induction Banquet at the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver on September 14, 2013.
“We are honored to receive this award from the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum,” said Tim Crowley, president of the Nevada Mining Association. “Our team puts great effort into our education initiatives throughout the year, and we can’t express enough appreciation for the recognition of those efforts.”
