Last month, Newmont Mining Corporation presented its first of three installments of $100,000 to the Great Basin College Foundation Endowment for New Programs. This contribution will assist GBC initiate new academic and training programs to meet the ever-changing business and industry needs in northwest Nevada.
As part of the Endowment for New Programs, GBC has established the Land Survey and Geomatics program in response to a mandate that all licensed land surveyors in Nevada have bachelor degree credentials.
Many companies within Nevada’s mining industry committed to help fund this important endowment. The $1.5 million goal was reached in November thanks in large part to Newmont’s contribution, a generous donation of $150,000 from Barrick Gold, and $300,000 in anonymous donations.
Thanks to all of those in the mining industry who helped with this meaningful initiative.
