On Saturday, Oct. 2, the community members of Hadley and the surrounding areas gathered to celebrate their health at the 2010 Wellness Fair. Fun activities were enjoyed throughout the day including Wii Just Dance, Yoga demonstrations and a Crafter’s Table while children were entertained in Day Care with exciting games.
Health awareness was promoted with booths including empowering the “Fight Against Breast Cancer,” having blood drawn at the Round Mountain Gold Clinic and a sample display of healthy food choices from The General Store. Other booths showed off services from local businesses including massage therapy, financial assistance, spinal health, make-up, candles and vitamins. In addition, the D.A.R.E. booth offered their important message on drug abuse resistance to each child and visitor that stopped by.
Round Mountain Gold Corporation’s environmental department displayed a variety of pictures showing their role in helping the community. Community members learned about reclamation projects, restocking the fish in Hadley Pond and education endeavors towards youth in the community. The department also handed out free trees to promote environmental wellness.
A drawing was held every half hour with fourteen lucky winners. Prizes included a $200 gift certificate for Scheels and a $100 gift certificate for Toys ‘R’ Us. Prizes were also handed out to the winners of the putting challenge and healthy food cook-off. Pam Winbarger cooked up a delicious Turkey Chili earning her a brand new George Foreman Grill. The runner-up Norma Slagel plated a healthy Whole Grain Salad.
A success once again, the Wellness Fair would not be possible without the support of the individuals, departments and groups who work hard to make it happen each year.
The Nevada Mining Association is always happy to see its members being great community leaders. We congratulate Round Mountain Gold Corporation for being an exemplary part of their community.
