Name: Christina Pearson
Company: Nevada Mining Association
Job Title: Director of Membership Services
Welcome to the NvMA, Christina! How are you liking it so far?
I have absolutely loved working at NvMA for the past month and a half! Everyone from the office team, to individual members, to board members have been so welcoming and supportive! It makes me enthusiastic to work with people who are so passionate about their jobs. The challenge of doing something new is also really interesting and since this is a new position for NvMA, it’s a great opportunity to bring in my own ideas and build on what the team here has been working towards. I love that my job helps support an industry vital to Nevada. It gives me a sense of pride that what we are working on today is strengthening Nevada mining for all those who will work in the industry in the future!
Tell us about your career.
You know when you do those tests for which career you should be in? Mine always come up with a job helping people. And they’re right. I do really enjoy helping people. I like being able to solve something (I like a bit of detective work), make something easier for someone, show someone something that will make their work easier and create value for them.
For the past 10 years, I had been working in Reno at Atlantis Casino Resort Spa (and was a Vendor Member of NvMA). I worked my way into a position as Regional Sales Manager and booked conventions and meetings while building relationships with organizations all across the Pacific Northwest and Rocky Mountain states. Before that, while I was going to school at the University of Nevada, Reno, I took a position as a Driver/Guard for an armored car company. (To answer everyone’s first two questions: Yes, I drove the truck. And yes, I was armed.) While it had its perks, the best part of working there was that I met my future husband!
What do you like to do away from work?
My husband and I have two boys (6 and 1 ½ years old). We’re at a stage where we’re at a lot of Little League games and play dates with friends. But really, we enjoy anything outdoors, especially Lake Tahoe. We just got our first pop-up camping trailer and we’re excited to hit the road this summer and take some weekend camping trips.
Tell us something your friends know about you that we don’t.
The first car that I owned when I was 16 years old was a ’66 Mustang convertible. It got me into more trouble than I’d like to remember, but I loved it! I hope to one day rebuild a classic car as a project. The most exciting team building experience I’ve ever participated in was a day at the Bondurant Racing School doing Hot Laps and racing in a Team Slalom.
What should someone do if they want to join the Nevada Mining Association?
We’ve launched a new website and the easiest way to join is using our online member application at www.nevadamining.org/joinform/. Those who want to join can also call, email, or visit the office if you’re in town.
