LAS VEGAS – The Latin Chamber of Commerce (LCC) Nevada recently presented the Corporate Responsibility Award to Nevada Gold Mines (NGM) operated by Barrick at the Annual Latin Chamber of Commerce Celebration Gala. NGM has established itself as a valued partner to host communities, the state of Nevada, and its other local stakeholders, as evidenced by the $2.6 billion the company provided in social investments and economic contributions throughout 2021.

Nevada Gold Mines recognizes the importance of investing in youth and education and have developed a myriad of partnerships to further promote and enhance education pathways. Some of these partnerships include the two-year, $2.2M partnership with Discovery Education and Nevada Department of education to bring online resources to students and teachers across Nevada. To date, the program has been utilized by all schools in Nevada.

Recently, NGM partnered with College of Southern Nevada and Clark County School District to provide opportunities for high school students to obtain college-level certificates in Industrial Maintenance and Diesel Technology. Fall 2021 marks the first cohort of students starting this pilot program with the intent to graduate students career ready.

Other partnerships include, University of Nevada Las Vegas, Touro University, and Communities In Schools, all intended to strengthen education and workforce development within Nevada.

“After visiting northern Nevada with my team, seeing the mining operations with my own eyes, meeting the people on the ground who truly care about the environment and getting a real education on mining, there was no doubt who deserved this award in 2021,” said Peter Guzman president of the LCC.

The Corporate Responsibility Award is given out once a year to a company that shows a strong commitment to corporate responsibility standards and whose leaders are actively involved in supporting and advancing those efforts.
